Within thirty minutes' drive from La Grue there are lakes and man-made inland beaches with beautiful, clean water at Angouleme; 'Nautilis' waterpark is thirty minutes away with its outdoor water slides and indoor pool and ice rink. 

The infamous, historic town of Cognac is only forty minutes away with its distillery tours and river trips along the Charente.

In under an hour's drive, you can be at Zoodysee - an animal park which is a huge hit with young and old alike; a miniature boating park - Les Petits Bateaux; ‘Monkey Valley’ and lots more. The Atlantic coast beaches of La Rochelle, Royan and Meschers approximately 90 minutes away.

Rouillac which is a fifteen minute drive away, boasts one of the largest markets in South-West France and offers a real treat for 'foodies'.

There are also plenty of sites of historical interest close by where you can explore Roman ruins and beautiful architecture. The amphitheatre at Saintes is very impressive.

Chateau des Enigmes (The Castle of Riddles) is an hour away and is a fabulous full day out for all the family. Visit website

Les Petits Bateaux is just less than an hour away and is a great day for the children with plenty to do from bouncy castles, go-karting, play area, swing boats and of course, the miniature boats to navigate around the canal and the lake. Visit website

Zoodysee is a natural animal park set in the forest of Chize and it has over 70 European species of animals to see. It’s under an hour away too. Visit website

Nautilis Waterpark at Angouleme is only 30 minutes away and has an indoor leisure and swimming pool as well as outdoor waterslides, an ice rink and lots more. Visit website

Verteuil-sur-Charente, thirty minutes away has a beautiful Chateau and is a lovely day out.

The night market which is lit by candles at Talmont is very atmospheric and the Pirate festival at Mortagne sur Gironde is well worth a visit but do book in advance if you wish to dine there on that evening!
