About the Gites

La Ferme, Bois and Verre.

Our three gites all have individual, private courtyard gardens with stone-built barbecues and dining areas. There is also a shared, outdoor seating area for guests to socialise along with ping-pong and table football.  Our large swimming pool has its own courtyard with plenty of space for sun loungers and parasols. We have a small library with books and children’s board games. For the youngsters to run off some steam, we have a games field. There's also a laundry area.

‘Bois’ (a former wood-store) is our one-bedroomed gite which, along with all our properties, has been tastefully renovated in the Charentaise style with exposed stone walls, oak beams and traditional flooring - it's perfect for couples. It has a modern kitchen with everything you will need and a dining area for four.

‘Verre’ (once a bottle store) is a spacious two-bedroomed gite, comfortably sleeping four people with a main double bedroom and a twin room. There is an open plan well-equipped kitchen and a dining area.

‘La Ferme’ (once a farm house) sleeps six with its three large bedrooms. There is a spacious courtyard, a large lounge with a beautiful open-fireplace and, a fully-equipped dining-kitchen gives you plenty of space.

La Grue Gites offers you everything you need for a comfortable stay in SW France.

The Area

Locally, within a five minute walk, we have an Organic local fruit and vegetable shop in Juif. All grown here in our commune of Mons and seasonal.
Down the road, there is the Aubinaud family who have produced Cognac and Pineau for five generations. Cathy will happily advise you with tastings and you can buy direct from the property.
Roland Vilneau at Verdille is a wine producer and you can taste his lovely rose, white or red wine.
If you like horseriding, Fanny and Elise at our stables in Mons can help and Elise speaks fluent English.
Why not have a look around La Cagouille Charentaise? Our local snail farm where you can buy artisan produce too.
Our quiet lanes are ideal to walk and cycle freely.
Restaurants, supermarket, epiceries, bakeries and amenities are only five minutes' drive away in either direction.
Within fifteen minutes from La Grue, there are lakes with beautiful, clean water at St. Fraigne and a Plan d'Eau at Les Gours.
Rouillac, which is a fifteen minute drive away, boasts one of the largest markets in South-West France and offers a real treat for 'foodies'.
Verteuil-sur-Charente is thirty minutes away with its magnificent, breath-taking Chateau.
'Nautilis' waterpark at Angouleme with its outdoor water slides, indoor pool and ice rink is only thirty minutes away. There is also a huge 'Plan d'eau' area in Angouleme so you do have beaches close by.
The infamous, historic town of Cognac is only forty minutes away with its distillery tours and river trips along the Charente.
In under an hour, you can reach Zoodysee - an animal park which is a huge hit with young and old alike; a miniature boating park at Les Petits Bateaux in St. Savinien; the Chateau des Enigmes at Pons and ‘Monkey Valley’ at Romagne.

There are also plenty of sites of historical interest close by where you can explore Roman ruins and beautiful architecture. The amphitheatre at Saintes is very impressive.

The Atlantic coast beach of Fourras is a 75 minute drive with La Rochelle, Royan and Meschers approximately 90 minutes away.
